Any mission is possible when you put your mind to it and call upon the Almighty for guidance. Reach out to your fellow man and make a Mission Possible.
God has spoken in the Bible over 300 times about how He feels about those who are poor Deuteronomy. 15:7 “If there is a poor man among you, one of your brothers, in any of the towns of the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand to your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks”. All over the world people are experiencing financial hardship; homelessness is increasing, and tragedies of all sorts ranging from floods, earthquakes and tsunamis, to hurricanes and tornadoes. We are living in one of the most turbulent times in history, and yet God exhorts us to reach out to those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Jesus’ death on the cross is the way God shows His great love for and towards us. The cross not only extends vertically, which shows the love between God the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, but it extended itself horizontally toward us when He allowed His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die upon the cross for our sins so that we may have access to an abundant life. Jesus was always attracted to those who were hurting and I believe likewise that God wants our love towards one another to not only extend to “me and my three” or “my four and no more”, but to also extend horizontally towards others that He allows us to hear about, be it through a friend, neighbor, church, news article, or even a TV infomercial. There are also many ways that we as a family can not only teach our children to help those in need, but as a family we can be mission-minded.
As a family we can show our children how to be mission-focused by taking them to a homeless shelter during the holidays and serving food to the hungry, or taking them to the store and letting them choose a toy or outfit to give to a child at a Women and Children’s shelter. In order to teach them to be socially conscious of the poverty in other countries, as a family you can choose a child from World Vision to sponsor on a monthly basis. And as my former pastor growing up in church used to teach us, if you cannot go to a foreign country to help, then you can always “send go”, by giving generously along with your tithes and offerings an amount that will help send missionaries who believe that it is their calling from God to go and not only spread the gospel, but to put actual “hands and feet” to the gospel that they are preaching to help those in need. Remember, God said in Deuteronomy 15:10,“You shall give generously to [your poor brother], and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in all your undertakings”.
